Reykjavík University is pleased to announce and invite you to the Summer School “Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback: Translating Evidence into Practice”, organized in cooperation with Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands) and Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden) within the framework of NeurotechEU. The Summer School, which is targeted to Master's and Doctoral students in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Health Technology/Biomedical Engineering, will take place from May 21 – June 17, 2026, partially online and onsite in Reykjavík , Iceland.

The intensive blended course introduces applied psychophysiology with a strong focus on heart rate variability (HRV) self-regulation and biofeedback. The first part of the programme takes place online offering orientation, foundational concepts, team formation, and interactive group teaching. The following on-site week is dedicated to HRV laboratory work, a collaborative team experiment and expert guest sessions on neurofeedback and practical applications. The Summer School concludes with a final online phase focusing on data analysis, report writing and presentations, and an integration session to consolidate learning outcomes.

Program Structure

Phase 1: May 21 – May 31 (Online) 

  • Orientation
  • Applied psychophysiology overview
  • HRV self-regulation training
  • Team setup and weekly 1h team meetings
  • Group Assignment 1 - Team teaching (2h, interactive; use of digital tool such as Mentimeter)

Phase 2: June 01 – June 05 (On-site) 

  • HRV labs and team experiment
  • guest teaching (neurofeedback, HRVBF, applications)

Phase 3: June 06 – June 17 (Online) 

  • Capstone analysis
  • report writing and final presentations

Target Group

  • Master students
  • PhD candidates

All target groups must be either NeurotechEU students or people employed at the University of Bonn. Candidates from other programmes of study or institutions are not eligible. Synapses participants are particularly encouraged to apply.

Selected participants receive a fully funded NeurotechEU scholarship, which will cover your expenses for travel and accommodation.

  • Transcript of Records of your current study program (This applies to Master‘s students)
